Mission

Connecting Queenstown-Lakes Through Shared Adventures

Rentaverse NZ exists to connect the Queenstown-Lakes community through the gear already sitting in garages, sheds, and spare rooms across the region.

By making it simple for locals to share what they own with the adventurers who need it, Rentaverse NZ turns idle equipment into lived experiences, and neighbours into a community.

It’s peer-to-peer gear sharing built for the people who call this extraordinary corner of New Zealand home.

Why We’re Here

Mike Chase built the original Rentaverse in Burlington, Vermont, after noticing something that nagged at him: expensive and useful outdoor gear — kayaks, ski kits, tents, bikes — sitting unused for months while people nearby were either skipping adventures or spending a fortune at rental shops.

Thousands of miles away in Queenstown, New Zealand, his brother Chris was watching exactly the same thing play out in one of the world’s great outdoor playgrounds.

The Southern Lakes District, which is home to Queenstown, is surrounded by world-class mountains, rivers, trails, and snow…and yet plenty of locals own quality gear that barely sees daylight, while plenty of adventurers are priced out of the experience they came here for!

That gap, between gear gathering dust and adventures waiting to happen, is the problem Rentaverse NZ is here to close.

Building a Trusted Community

Rentaverse NZ is built on the understanding that trust isn’t a feature…it’s the foundation.

Every person who joins the platform, whether as an owner or an adventurer, is part of a community that looks out for each other’s gear and each other’s experiences.

Verified profiles, honest reviews, clear rental agreements, and responsive support are all part of how that trust gets built and maintained over time.

The Queenstown-Lakes region already has a culture of generosity and genuine connection.  Rentaverse NZ is simply giving that spirit a practical home.

Our Vision for the Future

Rentaverse NZ is in its pilot phase right now, launching carefully, listening closely, and building something designed to last.

The focus during this beta period is on getting it right in the Queenstown-Lakes region first: earning the trust of local gear owners and adventurers, refining the platform based on real feedback, and growing a community that genuinely works for the people in it.

Once the foundations are solid here, the vision is to expand across New Zealand, bringing the same neighbourly approach to outdoor communities in Wānaka, Te Anau, Nelson, and beyond.
